The Results Are In
As Nola.com reported: Bricolage is "the highest performing open enrollment school in New Orleans". This summer Bricolage received results from our third grade students’ first time taking Louisiana’s state standardized test (LEAP). 65% of Bricolage third graders scored mastery and above on the math and English language arts assessments. In only their fourth year, Bricolage students outperformed their peers at schools that have been operating for decades.
Our students outperformed their peers across the state in every subgroup. We are particularly proud to share that 46% of our students who are economically disadvantaged scored mastery or above on the math and English language arts assessments. If our students who are economically disadvantaged were the only students at Bricolage who took the LEAP test, Bricolage would rank as the 6th highest performing open enrollment school in the city and 8th overall. Indeed, the performance of our African American students alone was higher than the state average for all students.
We are simultaneously proud of these results and determined to improve upon them. For a new, “unproven” school, results like these validate the hard work our students, teachers and staff put in every day. They also provide an assurance to every family who took a chance on Bricolage years ago, that their children are learning at a high performing school. Bricolage is demonstrating that schools can be diverse, creative, inquisitive places where the social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum, without compromising academic achievement. However, we know that these results are just a baseline. Our students, teachers, administration and families continue to be dedicated to creating innovators who change the world. That is an ongoing pursuit, and one that doesn't stop because of 3rd grade test results. We're just getting started, and we're thrilled you are with us.
