Middle School Update
Our school design process is organized into three broad phases – Understand, Design, and Build.
We have spent most of the first half of the school year in the Understand phase because we want to ground the middle school design in a deep, foundational understanding of the students and families that make up the community that the school will serve.
Greeting and chatting with 2nd-4th grade students and families at arrival and dismissal, being a part of a 4th grade class’ morning meeting, working with a 3rd grade class during math workshop, interacting with 4th graders during recess and lunch, co-teaching 4th grade social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons with Ms. Knipp, Bricolage’s SEL teacher, and engaging with focus groups around co- and extra-curricular programming are some of the wonderful opportunities I use to get to know and better understand the Bricolage community.
The Understand phase will continue through the Design and Build phases and well beyond the launch of the middle school. We look forward to more opportunities to get to know and better understand you and for you to get to know and better understand our vision for Bricolage’s middle school program.
Over the last month, we have been operating in the Design phase. I have compiled a list of core design priorities for the middle school’s design, based on the information gleaned from the Understand work.
I am excited to share this work with you soon. Please be on the look-out for an announcement about an upcoming opportunity in January to come hear from me.
See you soon,
Middle School Principal
